Hey friends,

I spent years getting really good at building someone else’s thing.

Then I realized I had nothing of my own. That terrified me.

I was solving problems every single day, building systems, fixing things nobody else wanted to touch.

And every night I would go home knowing that none of it was mine.

But first, here’s a quick building-in-public update:

😶‍🌫️ The best ideas are usually not new ideas

Something keeps happening inside creatyl that I find really interesting.

People come in thinking they need to invent something.

A completely original product.
A brilliant business idea.
Something nobody else has ever done.

Then we start talking about what they already know.

And suddenly, the idea is sitting right there.

It is something they learned from doing their job for 10 years.

A process they created because the old way was too complicated.

A question clients have asked them 100 times.

A problem they struggled with until they finally figured it out.

That has changed the way I think about what we are building at creatyl.

Our job is not to help people come up with more random ideas.

It is to help them recognize the value in what they already know and turn it into something useful.

Because one of the biggest things holding people back is not a lack of knowledge.

It is that their own knowledge feels ordinary to them.

They have known it for so long that they forget someone else is still trying to figure it out.

I see that happen constantly.

And every time I do, I am reminded that building something of your own does not always start with learning something new.

Sometimes it starts with finally seeing the value in what you already know.

What could become something you own?

You do not need another big idea before you start.

You need one useful skill, one problem you can solve, and a simple way for someone to buy the solution.

In my free workshop, we’ll turn what you know into a digital product and sales page you can actually put in front of people.

Every year you stay, you get a little better at building someone else's thing and a little further from building your own.

Your company already knows how valuable you are.

The question is how much longer you are going to let them be the only ones who profit from it.

Today we are going to help you master this by using:

‘Build Your Own Thing - Turn One Skill Into Income You Own'

Let’s dive in!

4 Ways To Build Your Own Thing

1. When You Have Skills but No Offer Idea

Scenario: You know you want income you control, but everything you know feels too normal to turn into something people would buy.

  • Write down the problems friends, coworkers, or clients already come to you to solve.

  • Look for skills that help someone get a result faster, avoid a mistake, or make something easier.

  • Pick one problem and one type of person to help first. A narrow starting point makes it much easier to create an offer people understand.

2. When You Keep Planning Instead of Selling

Scenario: You have an idea you believe could work, but you keep adding features, changing the plan, or waiting until everything feels ready.

  • Write your offer in one sentence: “I help [person] get [result] by giving them [solution].”

  • Talk to five potential buyers before spending weeks building. Ask what they have already tried and what keeps getting in their way.

  • Create the smallest version that solves the main problem and put a real price on it. Buyers will teach you more than another month of planning.

3. When You’re Doing Everything but Growing Nothing

Scenario: You are posting, emailing, creating, and trying new ideas every week, but you cannot tell which activities are actually moving your business forward.

  • Choose one number that tells you whether the business is moving, such as qualified leads, sales conversations, or purchases.

  • At the end of each week, identify the one action that brought you closest to a sale and give it more time the following week.

  • Create a “stop doing” list for work that takes hours but rarely leads to conversations, customers, or useful feedback.

4. When You’re Ready to Turn What You Know Into Income

Scenario: You have a useful skill or experience, but right now the only way it makes you money is when you personally trade your time for it.

  • Turn one result you already know how to create into something another person can use, such as a guide, template, checklist, workshop, or course.

  • Build for the person who is a few steps behind you. You do not need to teach everything you know—just help them solve one problem well.

  • Use creatyl to turn that knowledge into a digital product, create the offer, and start selling it without stitching together a complicated setup.

Here's how you can make it real today:

Step 1: Choose where you need to move

  • Pick the lesson you most need to work on.

  • Ask:

    • What have I been thinking about but not acting on?

    • What decision am I avoiding?

    • What would move this idea closer to making money?

Step 2: Pick one result for today

  • Choose one useful thing you can complete before the day ends.

  • Keep it small and specific.

  • Finish this sentence:

    • “Before today ends, I will ______.”

Step 3: Give yourself 30 focused minutes

  • Put 30 minutes on your calendar and work only on that one thing.

  • Ignore everything that can wait.

  • When you get stuck, ask:

    • “What is the simplest version I could finish today?”

  • Your goal is to get something out of your head and into the real world.

Step 4: Put it in front of someone

  • Before you spend more time improving it, get a reaction from one real person.

  • Ask:

    • “Would this actually help you?”

    • “What feels unclear?”

    • “What would make this more useful?”

  • Look for specific feedback you can act on instead of trying to get approval.

Step 5: Turn today into your next move

  • At the end of the day, spend five minutes looking at what happened.

  • Ask:

    • What did I finish?

    • What did I learn from doing it?

    • What became clearer once I stopped thinking and started acting?

  • Then finish:

    • “My next move is ______.”

AI Prompt:

“Act as my business coach. Help me choose the best action I can take today to turn one skill I already have into something I can own and sell.

  • The lesson I chose: [INSERT]

  • My skill: [INSERT]

  • The problem I could solve: [INSERT OR “NOT SURE”]

  • Who I could help: [INSERT OR “NOT SURE”]

  • What I have already done: [INSERT]

  • My biggest roadblock: [INSERT]

  • Time I have today: [INSERT]

Give me:

  • The ONE action I should focus on today.

  • Why this is the right move for where I am now.

  • Three simple steps to complete it.

  • The exact words, questions, or message I should use if I need feedback from someone.

  • One assumption I should test instead of guess.

  • What I should have finished by the end of today.

  • The best next step to take tomorrow.

Keep everything specific, practical, and simple. Do not give me a full business plan. Focus only on what I can finish today to move one skill closer to becoming income I own.”

The things that feel easy to you may be difficult for someone who has not learned them yet.

The process you repeat without thinking may save another person hours of mistakes.

The questions people keep asking you may be showing you exactly where your value is.

You do not always need another skill, certification, or big idea before you begin.

Sometimes the next opportunity starts when you finally take seriously what you already know.

Until next time and with lots of love,

Justin
