How Great Leaders Meet Real Needs
1. Your team just missed a major deadline
Scenario: Morale is low, stress is high, and everyone's waiting to see how you react.
Physiological:
Give your team permission to leave early or take a late start the next day.
People can’t reset if they’re exhausted.
Safety:
Be direct.
Say: “You’re not in trouble. We’re not blaming anyone. Let’s talk through it and figure out how to make this easier next time.”
Belonging:
Sit with your team and listen.
Ask, “What made this hard?” Not to fix right away, but to connect.
Esteem:
Point out what did go well.
Say: “You stayed committed under pressure. That matters more to me than perfection.”
Self-Actualization:
After the dust settles, offer growth.
“Want to co-lead the next sprint planning? I think you’re ready.”
2. You’re onboarding a new team member
Scenario: A new hire joins your team and feels unsure, quiet, and overwhelmed.
Physiological:
Help them with basics.
“Here’s where we keep snacks. Here’s a calendar of team breaks. You don’t have to power through.”
Safety:
Say: “You’re not expected to know everything. You’re safe to ask, try, and learn here.”
Belonging:
Assign a peer buddy. Invite them to informal check-ins.
Say: “You’re one of us now. We’ve got your back.”
Esteem:
Give small wins early.
“You handled that first task really well—your attention to detail stood out.”
Self-Actualization:
Ask: “What would you love to get really good at while you’re here? Let’s make sure you get a shot.”
3. One of your best people is starting to disconnect
Scenario: A top performer is showing signs of boredom and pulling back.
Physiological:
Ask about workload first.
“Do you need more breaks? Is the pace draining lately?”
Safety:
Check for hidden stress.
“Is there anything going on behind the scenes that’s been hard?”
Belonging:
Pull them back in with real connection.
“We miss your energy. You’re a big part of this team’s rhythm.”
Esteem:
Give them a meaningful challenge.
“There’s an internal project I’d love your help with. It needs someone sharp.”
Self-Actualization:
Say: “If we could build something new around your skills, what would that look like?”

Most people spend hours planning their product—then stall when it’s time to write.
What do I call it?
What do I say on the page?
What if nobody opens the email?
This week’s infographic gives you 10 simple prompts that take the pressure off and move you forward fast. Here’s how to use them in real life:
1. You wrote a product but haven’t named it yet
Scenario: You have a great idea—maybe even a full draft—but you’re stuck on what to call it.
Open ChatGPT and run the Offer Name prompt from the infographic.
Choose your top 3 options.
Share them on your Instagram Story with a poll to let your audience pick the winner.
Now your audience feels involved—and you get validation before launch.
2. Your emails are getting ignored
Scenario: You’ve been sending product emails, but the open rate is low.
Try the “Email Subject Lines” prompt in the infographic.
A/B test 2 versions this week (send half your list subject A, half subject B).
Watch which one gets more opens—and use that style going forward.
You don’t need more emails. You need better subject lines.
3. You have the idea—but the writing’s slowing you down
Scenario: You know what you want to build, but every time you try to write the description or emails you freeze.
Go to creatyl.com and open the AI tool.
Paste in the 2 prompts from the infographic:
→ Product Description
→ Perfect BuyerLet the AI help you shape your words—so you're not staring at a blank screen.
You bring the idea. creatyl helps you write it, build it, and launch it..

Here's how you can make it real today:
Step 1: Choose your focus
Think back to a moment this week that felt off — maybe someone shut down, a project lost steam, or energy dropped.
Ask yourself: “What was missing in that moment?”
Use the Maslow graphic to pick one need that fits.
Step 2: Set your cue
Pick one point in your day — before a 1:1, after a meeting, during a break — to try something different.
Set a calendar alert or write a sticky note that says:
“Lead with this need today.”
Step 3: Make one real move
Do one thing that matches the need you're working on:
If it’s physiological or safety: Tell someone to log off early. Delay a non-urgent task. Share a simple plan to reduce stress.
If it’s belonging: Check in. Sit with someone. Say, “You’re not alone in this.”
If it’s esteem: Give real credit. Say, “What you did there mattered.”
If it’s growth: Ask, “What would stretch you in a good way this month?”
Step 4: Notice what shifted
After your action, take 60 seconds to reflect:
Did the room feel different?
Did someone relax, smile, or speak up more?
Did things feel clearer?
Step 5: Lock in with one line
Before your day ends, write:
“Today I led better by meeting this need: _____.”
or“Next time I sense a gap in trust/energy/growth, I’ll try: _____.”
AI Prompt: “Act as a leadership coach. Create a simple step-by-step plan to help me lead using one level of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs during my workday.
Maslow Level I’m Focusing On: [Insert one — e.g., “Belonging” or “Esteem”]
Context or Situation: [Insert a real moment — e.g., “Team member seemed disconnected in today’s meeting”]
My Goal Today: [Insert what you want to improve — e.g., “Make them feel more included” or “Give clear recognition”]
Please provide:
A short plan with 2–3 steps I can take today to meet this need in a real way
Sample phrases or messages I can say or write
Tips to make sure it feels honest, not forced
Make it feel natural and doable during a normal workday.”

The best leaders don’t wait for the signs.
They don’t wait for people to ask for safety.
They don’t wait for someone to break down to offer support.
They build systems that take care of the needs before the cracks show.
That’s not about being nice. That’s about being real.
This is how strong teams are built — from the bottom of the pyramid up.
Until next time and with lots of love,
Justin
